The south facing side hills above this river are another example of small and very unique grasslands in the Omineca region. There have been numerous studies completed on the area indicating that the grassland ecosystem is old and stable. However, some parts are at risk due to tree ingress. Burns in the past have focused on burning the already open meadows. Future burns will focus on impacting treed areas of the grasslands and improve the sustainability of the grassland ecosystem.
In the spring of 2014 a Euchinko River burn was completed in areas recommended by Simonar and Migabo. This area was initially burned with a ground crew then followed up with an aerial ignition a week later for areas not burned in the initial ignition. Approximately 225 ha were burned.
