From April 29 to May 1, 2026, fifty people gathered in Fort St. John to increase our collective restoration effectiveness. We spent two days in the North Peace Cultural Centre and a half day in the field for Montney Creek watershed site visits.
We coached one another through real-life challenges in our respective practices, brainstormed ways to overcome procedural delays, and charted a course for the directions we want to grow together. Presenters shared learnings, including key takeaways from unsuccessful restoration projects and both emerging and established success stories.
Across all the presentations from our colleagues, one clear theme emerged: Investing in leading practices returns holistic ecosystem recovery; in other words, the time, money, and effort we put into restoration planning and actions returns dividends in restored lands, waters, and relationships. More succinctly, learn from mistakes and do it right the first time!
